The History of Harbor Freight Tools
Harbor Freight Tools was founded by Allan Smidt. In 1977. It was first named Harbor Freight & Salvage Co. and was based in Los Angeles California. The company started out as a mail-order business instead of a retail store. In 1980, the company opened the doors of its first retail store in Lexington, Kentucky.The current CEO of the company is Eric Smidt, Allan's son.
Today's Harbor Freight has a headline that reads "Quality Tools At Ridiculously Low Prices." It is a privately owned business with over five hundred retail stores open and is planning to continue expanding. Harbor Freight has certain brand names that are not popular among other store. Some of these name brands include Pittsburg, U.S. General, Chicago Electric, Central Pneumatic and a few other brands.
